TYMNHS: The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle

In this first edition of Things you might not have seen, I present to you a seafaring adventure of a thirteen year of girl in the novel The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi.

I read this book at the mentioned age group of this novel and it was the greatest read ever. A prim and proper young lady stuck on a ship, abandoned by her guardians joins the sea crew, fights a sadistic Captain, gets accused of murder and found guilty, fights back and goes on to be one the Captain of the ship. My mind was blown!

It was the coolest thing ever and made the timid young Aisha dream of similar rebellious adventures (don’t tell my parents lol).

So, the book wasn’t historically accurate but that was not, I believe, the spirit of what it was supposed to represent: a grand adventure.

Stay tuned for more in my TYMNHS posts 😊 Hope that you found something new to discover!
