2020 really has been a hard year. From losing my Aunt, to hearing about the sadness, grief and unrest around the world. The loss of Chadwick Boseman hit particularly hard, even if I didn’t know him in person. He had a calming aura and gentle presence on screen. He will be greatly missed.
For this edition of TYMNHS, I chose the animated movie ‘Book of Life’. It centers around the tradition of Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. What starts as a bet between La Muerte, ruler of the Land of the Remembered, and Xibalba, ruler of the Land of the Forgotten, to see who Maria chooses as her suitor. Would it be the gentle Manolo or the impressive Joaquín?
Book of Life is about love, about family, about self-identity, about choosing kindness. It shows life after death to be as vibrant, if not more, than the land of the living. It is about the power of remembering.
Do not just grieve, those who have passed. Remember them, honor their memories. Let their love live forever in your hearts.
